Born into a radio family Robert Michelson started working in radio at the age of ten. His father, Charles Michelson was a pioneer in the radio industry working on and later syndicating old time radio shows such as The Shadow, The Green Hornet, The Lone Ranger, Burns and Allen, and The Jack Benny Show.

Robert worked with his father until 1973 when he was hired by National Lampoon as the general manager of The National Lampoon Radio Hour. The show starring John Belushi, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Gilda Radner ran for two years and went on to become Saturday Night Live. In 1975 following in his father's footsteps, Robert formed Robert Michelson Inc., and began producing and syndicating original programming for rock radio stations. RMI produced and syndicated The Marvel Comics Radio Series starring Stan Lee and Bill Murray. RMI also created the first Rock Calendar series, sponsored by Maxell Tape.

In the early eighties RMI transitioned from a programming supplier to a marketing company. RMI's first hit TV commercial Drives Me Nuts became the signature campaign for the newly emerging Classic Rock format. The company has been creating and syndicating tv commercials for radio stations ever since.

A production office was opened in San Francisco in 1985, where RMI focused on creating new campaigns and obtaining rights to existing commercials. From the mid-80’s through the early 90’s RMI established itself as the leading syndicator of television campaigns for rock stations. Their portfolio includes : Big, It’s Not For Everybody, The Video Pirate, The Recession Buster, Naked, and Cuz. All of these campaigns were successful both nationally, as well as overseas. RMI’s unique approach to television marketing combines cutting edge creative with over 30 years of experience in both programming and marketing for radio stations.

RMI is a “one stop shop” for its radio clients. RMI's utilizes its' own in house digital production studio and has become one of the leading creative television commercial production companies in the radio industry. Production and Creative are headed up by RMI's creative director, David Alexander. David joined the company in 1989 and has spearheaded the creative approach that gives RMI’s clients the edge they need to break through the clutter.
